Etching Press Stand

Up until now, I have always located my etching press on a static base such as an old dining table or a heavy chest of drawers. This had made it very difficult to move the press and its support. I recently decided to buy one of Hawthorn Printmaker Supplies’ press stands. I chose the press stand that is made specifically for Hawthorn’s 545 Printmaster etching press.

With the “H” pattern top, I had to find a way of being able to support my press. My friend, Colin Hill, suggested I find a suitable length of worktop and fix it to the top of the press stand. As luck would have it, I was talking to a fellow Trustee at the Craven Arts’ Studio and, hey presto, there was indeed a suitable worktop tucked-away in a corner awaiting disposal. It was disposed of into the back of my car without delay!

Not wanting to drill holes into the metal press stand frame, I secured battens underneath the worktop to prevent the top from sliding around on top of the stand. The images below show the work in progress and the end result. Job done!
